Turning the Volume Down on Cooling Solutions

Mission-critical data centers require precision climate control to protect valuable assets. However, not all cooling solutions operate efficiently or quietly. So when a financial services firm was developing its new data center in New Jersey, it turned to SPX Cooling Technologies for a cooling solution that would meet its design criteria without disturbing sound-sensitive neighbors.

Quiet at 50 Feet

With a residential neighborhood just 100 feet away, the financial services firm required a low noise configuration for its cooling solution of 50 dba at 50 feet. Reliability (uptime) was also a major requirement because of the sensitivity of data housed in the facility.

SPX Cooling Technologies was the only cooling tower manufacturer that said they could meet both the design criteria and sound specifications.

A third-party acoustics company came to the SPX Cooling Technologies plant to perform sound tests on the tower; it performed spot-on at 50 dba at 50 feet.

The Growing Need for Low-noise Configurations

Noise pollution is a growing concern for communities around the globe. With continued urban development and expansion of industrial facilities, many customers are faced with strictly enforced noise regulations.

SPX Cooling Technologies provides a range of “low noise” configurations that allow cooling equipment to operate with reduced radiated noise, while maintaining equipment performance. Primarily designed for new HVAC and industrial equipment applications, many of these sound-reducing options can also be used on existing installations.
