Feeding the Food and Beverage Industry

Equipment from SPX companies plays major roles in Africa’s food and beverage processing industries.

For example, many margarine plants in South Africa operate with Bran +Luebbe® equipment. That’s not surprising given Bran+Luebbe blending systems are well respected worldwide for margarine processing as well as for manufacturing everything from chocolates and salad dressings to fruit yogurt and flavored cream cheeses.

One of those plants belongs to one of South Africa's leading producers of margarine. The company called on the expertise of Bran+Luebbe to supply new process pumps when the company upgraded its Capetown facility.

The blending pump units can produce up to seven tons per hour of either full fat margarine or low-fat spreads. Employing a three-phase process, the pumps provide the optimum blending of water, oil and additives, depending on the recipe.

From Sweets to Soft Drinks

Bran+Luebbe equipment is not restricted to margarine production. Bran+Luebbe metering and process pumps are used throughout South African manufacturing companies to produce sweets, chocolates, salad dressings, fruit yogurt and flavored cream cheeses. The units are also installed in applications used for processing some of the world’s most famous soft drinks and liquor brands.

Technologies and components from SPX’s APV® are pervasive throughout South Africa food and beverage processing facilities as well.

For example, APV components were instrumental in the upgrade of the juice preparation plant for a popular soft drink brand in South Africa. A number of leading African breweries have also invested in APV brewing systems and other components to upgrade and modernize their operations.
