More and more telecommunications and broadcast services in developing nations are clamoring for access to the radio spectrum. At the same time, policy makers and regulators are challenged to maintain fair allocation of the spectrum in the public interest and to ensure efficient use.
Helping Trinidad and Tobago
The Caribbean islands of Trinidad and Tobago are among those nations seeking a level playing field for all operators. TCI® International, Inc., an SPX company, worked with the Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (TATT) to develop a national Radio Spectrum Management and Monitoring System (RSMMS) to help meet the need for both management and regulatory guidelines. (Read the press release.)
The first phase of the project included installation of a mobile Spectrum Monitoring System (SMS), two transportable systems and one automated system to be located at TATT headquarters. The second phase included installation of a second mobile SMS and a suite of spares to support the long-term operations.
Solutions for Jamaica
TCI also supplied the Spectrum Management Authority (SMA) of Jamaica with an integrated Spectrum Management and Monitoring system. (Read the press release.)
The project included engineering and installing a monitoring system at a fixed site in Kingston, Jamaica; installing a second monitoring system in a Land Rover Defender provided by the SMA and packaging a third monitoring system for transportable use.
All three systems will run identical versions of TCI's Scorpio™ Windows-based client software. The project represents a good example of TCI’s ability to integrate identical TCI-supplied hardware in different physical configurations and to connect them with a single client software interface for all operators to use. Doing so minimizes training requirements while allowing the customer to put the system to work sooner rather than later.
