TCI® Brings Orders to the Radio Spectrum

The proliferation of telecommunications and broadcast services in developing nations is increasing demand for access to the radio spectrum. At the same time, rapid changes in technologies affecting spectrum use challenge policy makers and regulators in achieving their objectives of ensuring allocation of spectrum in the public interest and efficient spectrum use.

Bangladesh is among those nations faced with regulating a multi-operator environment and ensuring a level playing for all operators. TCI International, Inc., an SPX company, has been working with the Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to develop a national Radio Spectrum Management and Monitoring System (RSMMS) to help meet the need for both management and regulatory guidelines. (See the press release announcing the project.)

The Details and Results

The two-phase project included a central management and control center, four regional operations centers, six fixed monitoring stations and five mobile monitoring stations based on TCI’s dual 20/2 MHz model 745 Spectrum Monitoring System (SMS).

The RSMMS enables the BTRC to effectively and efficiently monitor and manage the HF/VHF/UHF/SHF RF spectrum according to the recommendations of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

On the Other Side of the World

Nations in Southern Africa are also witnessing a significant rise in demand for radio frequency spectrum; hence the need for a prudent national radio spectrum management and monitoring system.

TCI International, Inc. has also been working with an organization in one of those countries to supply, install and commission its National Radio Spectrum Management and Monitoring System. (Read the press release announcing the project.) The new system helps ensure efficient and effective utilization of this increasingly critical radio spectrum.

All of the TCI supplied equipment is being linked via a TCP/IP network that allows remote unattended operation from any network node. The system provides monitoring capabilities covering the entire HF/VHF/UHF/SHF spectrum ranging from 9 kHz to 40 GHz.
