That was the case for an installation and service company in Kiruna, Sweden. The company was asked to replace a boiler in a central boiler station, which was supplying heat to three rental properties. The challenge was that there was no shut-off valve to isolate the boiler that needed replaced.

Balloon Blocking Expedites
With the Tigerholm™ NoTap® Balloon blocking method, a clamp is mounted on the pipe and a hole drilled so a balloon can be inserted into the pipe. The balloons come in four sizes, suited for different pipe dimensions. The balloons and tooling are color-coded to help select correct dimensions.
The balloon is then blown up, effectively blocking the pipe so repair work may be done. When the work is done, the balloon is removed and a sealed cap is mounted to the clamp.

The typical approach for most installers would have been to drain the system, refill it and re-vent it, a time-consuming process that would have also disrupted services to the buildings’ tenants.
