For oil and gas producers, combining greener processes with their production methodologies seem like daunting tasks. But SPX Cooling Technologies is helping them do just that.
In Qatar, for example, SPX is supplying a dry cooling system — an evaporative system — for the air separation units of a multi-billion dollar natural gas production facility. (Read the press release announcing the project.)
A More Environmentally Conscious Solution
While many facilities opt for wet cooling systems, SPX recommended a system more appropriate for use in environments like those in Qatar where water supplies are limited. The system eliminates the once-through water cooling typical of a wet cooling system, and no wastewater is discharged.
The water-conserving solution complements the facility’s goal of converting natural gas into a range of more environmentally friendly synthetic fuels. Products will include naphtha, gas to liquids (GTL) fuel, normal paraffins, kerosene and lubricant base oils.
