Optimal Climate Control for Year-round Produce

Eurofresh Farms®, one of America’s largest greenhouses, conducted an exhaustive search a few years ago to find the ideal location for producing its greenhouse tomatoes.

Boasting abundant sunlight, idyllic climate and plentiful water supply, Willcox, Arizona provided the ultimate environment for harvesting exceptional quality greenhouse products 365 days a year.

However, the company could not rely solely on Arizona’s climate and resources to ensure premium quality greenhouse produce. They also incorporated computerized climate control systems to take the guesswork out of the critical growing parameters, like temperature, humidity, light, irrigation, ventilation and carbon dioxide levels within the greenhouse.

Integral to that system are components from Johnson Pump®, an SPX company.

Pumps Keep Tomatoes Just Right

For the initial project and subsequent greenhouse expansions, Johnson Pump supplied 484 pumps from its CombiLine™ (CL) and CombiBloc™ (CB) lines.

The pumps provide the high efficiency, reliability and flow control required to circulate heated water through the pipes that help ensure optimal growing temperatures in the greenhouse. The result is tomatoes — as well as other greenhouse-grown vegetables — that meet the quality standards of Eurofresh Farms.

The pumps are also critical components in Eurofresh Farms’ state-of-the-art closed greenhouse and propagation unit. The closed greenhouse provides for efficient energy use and water conservation, while the propagation unit allows Eurofresh to produce vegetables from seed, thus aiding the company in new product development.
