Scan Tool Focuses on Technician Efficiency

When engineers at OTC®, an SPX brand, started developing the follow up to their successful Genisys® diagnostic tool, they consulted the people who use the tool — automobile service technicians.

Time is money in the service and repair business; what the technicians wanted was a tool to help them be more productive.

With that in mind, OTC developed the Pegisys™ (Professional Enhanced Graphical Information System) scan tool. The next-generation scan tool incorporates “game-changing” technology that enables technicians to quickly and accurately identify problems, leading to quicker repairs and satisfied customers.

Designed for Today and Tomorrow

One way to increase technician productivity is to keep the technician by the automobile. Pegisys does this by offering access to real-time, web-enabled diagnostic assets “at the fender.”

The first tool of its kind to offer wireless capability, Pegisys frees technicians from the conventional onboard diagnostic (OBD) connectors and cable tether — even when the vehicle is on a lift.

Technicians can access hard-to-reach computer-controlled components and move freely while scanning the vehicle from anywhere within a 30-foot radius.

Extensive Resources at the Fingertips

Pegisys also puts a wealth of resources at technicians’ fingertips. Its extensive knowledge database includes vehicle coverage for model years 1980-2007 for 44 vehicle makes from 25 manufacturers.

If technicians cannot find the information they need in the tool, they can press a button — through WiFi if their shop is equipped — to reach global support for the latest updates. Information instantly populates the navigation bar, eliminating the need for technicians to look through complicated menus for the updates.

Designed for Ease of Use

Developed for easy use by technicians of varying abilities and backgrounds, the tool incorporates design concepts found in commonplace consumer devices. It resembles an iPod music player with its similarly styled controls. It is dockable with its own scan module and can communicate wirelessly.

For example, Pegisys’ SpeedScroll™ thumb pads allow a user to quickly scroll through menus, long data lists and independently manipulate data, even while wearing gloves.
