When a leading industry publication consistently cites a company’s products for ingenuity, it says something about that company’s commitment to developing forward-thinking customer solutions.
For the 13th year in a row —16th year overall — SPX Service Solutions won Motor Magazine’s Top 20 Tools Award.
This year’s winners were SPX’s OTC® brand Pegisys™ PC Diagnostic System and its Robinair® brand Infrared (IR) Refrigerant Leak Detector. Motor Magazine cited both products for their leading-edge features.
Each year the editors of the magazine, which reaches more than 500,000 service shop managers, supervisors and technicians, select the top 20 new products that help technicians diagnose service and repair vehicles quickly and accurately. This was the 18th year of the awards program.
A Culture of Innovation
According to David Schaar, director of marketing for SPX Service Solutions, the company’s repeated recognition from Motor Magazine attests to the company’s culture of innovation.
“Identifying customer needs and developing products that meet them is just the way we do business,” he explains. “Sometimes that involves adapting our existing technology but often it entails developing a first-of-its-kind solution. And it always includes determining how we can be at the forefront of solving customer problems with high value, differentiated solutions.”
Customer-Centric Focus
According to Schaar, by partnering with our customers and thoroughly understanding their needs, SPX Service Solutions develops and implements solutions that meet their specific requirements with the ultimate objective of enhancing both technician and shop productivity.
“We take an active approach to obtaining customer feedback, whether through direct customer contact or through formal market research,” he said. “In the vehicle service and repair business, time is money for our customers. Both of the tools recognized by Motor Magazine were developed specifically to help us help our customers work smarter, faster and more profitably.”
OTC Brand Builds on a Winner
One of this year’s winners, the OTC Pegisys (Professional Enhanced Graphical Information System) PC Diagnostic System, is actually an innovation based on the company’s successful OTC Pegisys® diagnostic tool launched in 2008.
This new Pegisys platform offers the same wireless technology and diagnostic software as the original Pegisys tool but is designed to run on shop PC or notebook computers.
Included is the Modular Vehicle Communication Interface (MVCI) with AirBridge™ Wireless Technology, which allows the diagnostic platform to communicate wirelessly with the vehicle. This gives the technician the ability to move freely while scanning the vehicle from anywhere within a 30-ft. radius.
The new system also integrates 27 years of vehicle coverage (1980-2007) for 44 different vehicle makes from more than 25 different manufacturers. It has diagnostic capability for US domestic, Asian, European and heavy-duty vehicles.
In addition, the tool has the capability to link seamlessly to Direct Hit Technician®, a proprietary, web-based data base of diagnostic and repair information that enables the technician to more quickly diagnose and repair today’s complex vehicles.
Repeat Performance for Robinair Brand
SPX Service Solutions’ other winner this year, the Robinair 22791 IR Refrigerant Leak Detector, represents the fifth time Robinair has been recognized in the Motor Magazine competition.
The breakthrough hand-held tool was designed to meet stringent new standards for leak detection while at the same time making the automotive technician’s job easier when uncovering hard-to-find refrigerant leaks in A/C systems.
While compact in design, the tool employs an innovative infrared leak detection technology that is capable of measuring minute refrigerant leaks. Finding and repairing refrigerant leaks faster not only makes the technician more productive, but also helps reduce the release of greenhouse gases.
More to Come
A number of other innovative products are in development at Service Solutions, many of which will have applications for vehicles and markets around the world.
“We are always searching for ways we can develop tools that help vehicle technicians meet the demands of changing vehicle technology, new government regulations and the changing vehicle service and repair landscape,” Schaar says. “We work harder and smarter so our customers can too.”
